Where to Actually Shop
Twenty places worth your luggage allowance. Zero Merlion keychains.
Singapore has more malls than weekends, so we did the walking for you: the malls that earn the trip, the markets with real bargains, the 24-hour legend in Little India and the small local shops whose souvenirs won't end up in a drawer.

1. Mustafa Centre
Shopping · Little India · MRT Farrer Park (NE8)
Open 24 hours
Gold, luggage, spices, phone chargers and 40 kinds of biscuit, at 3am. You will go in for an adapter and leave with a suitcase.
💡 Go late at night when the aisles are calmer. Forgotten cables, SIM kits and gifts for home are all here.
2. VivoCity
Shopping · HarbourFront · MRT HarbourFront (NE1/CC29)
Hours unknown, check before you go
Every high-street brand you know under one wavy roof, plus a rooftop wading pool facing Sentosa. The mall that doubles as a day out.
💡 The Sentosa Express leaves from Level 3, so shop on the way back, not on the way there. Nobody enjoys a beach with six bags.
3. Jewel Changi Airport
Shopping · Changi · MRT Changi Airport (CG2)
Hours unknown, check before you go
Part mall, part rainforest, part reason to get to the airport four hours early. Good local brands and all the last-minute gifts.
💡 Use the early check-in counters on Level 1, drop your bags, then shop hands-free. Most airlines accept bags hours ahead.
4. Funan
Shopping · Civic District · $$ · MRT City Hall (EW13/NS25)
Hours unknown, check before you go
The calm way to buy electronics: proper brand stores, labelled prices, an indoor climbing wall and a bike lane running through the mall.
💡 Forgot a charger, adapter or camera battery before a side event? This is the fastest fix in the city centre.
5. Sim Lim Square
Shopping · Rochor · $$ · MRT Rochor (DT13)
Hours unknown, check before you go
The old-school electronics maze. Heaven if you know exactly which GPU, SSD or obscure cable you want. Confusing if you don't.
💡 The upper floors are where the builders shop. Check the price online first, get it written down, and never pay for 'extras'.
6. Bugis Street
Shopping · Bugis · $ · MRT Bugis (EW12/DT14)
Hours unknown, check before you go
A covered street market crammed with tees, phone cases, sunglasses and fruit juice. Loud, sweaty, cheap and oddly satisfying.
💡 The ground floor is souvenir central. Climb to the upper levels for the clothes locals actually buy, and bring small notes.
7. Haji Lane
Street · Kampong Glam · MRT Bugis (EW12/DT14)
Hours unknown, check before you go
Narrow, loud with colour, and full of boutiques, bars and people taking the same photo. Still fun.
💡 Shops wake up after noon. Come late afternoon, then drift over to Bussorah Street for dinner.
8. Arab Street textile shops
Shopping · Kampong Gelam · $$ · MRT Bugis (EW12/DT14)
Hours unknown, check before you go
Bolts of batik and silk stacked to the ceiling, run by families who have sold cloth here for generations. Rugs and perfume oils too.
💡 A couple of metres of batik packs flat and beats any fridge magnet. Many shops close on Sundays, so come on a weekday.
9. Chinatown Street Market
Shopping · Chinatown · $ · MRT Chinatown (NE4/DT19)
Hours unknown, check before you go
Yes, it is touristy. It is also the cheapest place for chopsticks, tea tins, silk robes and gifts for the whole office in one go.
💡 Exit A of the MRT drops you right into it. Prices soften when you buy three or more, so shop for everyone at one stall.
10. Yue Hwa Chinese Products
Shopping · Chinatown · $$ · MRT Chinatown (NE4/DT19)
Hours unknown, check before you go
Tea, herbs, silk, porcelain and cheongsams across several floors of a grand old building. Fixed prices, zero haggling, lots of aunties.
💡 The tea floor is the souvenir sweet spot: good leaves in pretty tins at honest prices, and staff who will let you smell first.
11. Little India Arcade
Shopping · Little India · $ · MRT Little India (NE7/DT12)
Hours unknown, check before you go
A cluster of old shophouses packed with bangles, incense, brassware and Indian sweets. Smells like jasmine and cardamom all day.
💡 Get henna done here (it takes ten minutes), then cross to Tekka Centre for lunch while it dries.
12. TANGS at Tang Plaza
Shopping · Orchard · $$ · MRT Orchard (NS22/TE14)
Hours unknown, check before you go
The green-roofed pagoda on Orchard Road, trading since the 1930s. Strong on local designers, beauty and very good kitchen gear.
💡 The basement home section is where locals go for rice cookers and clever gadgets. Dangerous if you have luggage space.
13. Design Orchard
Shopping · Orchard · $$ · MRT Somerset (NS23)
Hours unknown, check before you go
One ground-floor showcase of home-grown fashion, jewellery and gifts. The quickest way to buy something truly made by Singaporeans.
💡 Walk up to the free rooftop garden afterwards. It's a quiet perch above Orchard Road that most shoppers never find.
14. Books Kinokuniya (Ngee Ann City)
Shopping · Orchard · $$ · MRT Orchard (NS22/TE14)
Hours unknown, check before you go
A vast, serious bookshop with deep shelves of Asian fiction, design, manga and Japanese stationery. Plan an hour. Lose three.
💡 Head for the Singapore literature shelves near the entrance for local authors you won't easily find at home.
15. Bras Basah Complex
Shopping · Bras Basah · $ · MRT Bras Basah (CC2)
Hours unknown, check before you go
A 1980s block stuffed with second-hand bookshops, art-supply stores, calligraphy brushes and design books. Gloriously un-renovated.
💡 Look for the design bookshop on the upper floors, then browse the used-book stalls. Shops keep their own hours; go after noon.
16. Woods in the Books
Shopping · Tiong Bahru · $$ · MRT Tiong Bahru (EW17)
Hours unknown, check before you go
A tiny, lovingly chosen shop of illustrated books on Tiong Bahru's prettiest street. The gift for the child (or designer) at home.
💡 Ask for picture books by Singapore illustrators. They are light, flat and far better than an airport plush toy.
17. Cat Socrates
Shopping · Joo Chiat · $$ · MRT Marine Parade (TE26)
Hours unknown, check before you go
Prints, pins, tote bags and cards by Singapore artists, all very Peranakan-tile and kopi-cup. A resident cat handles quality control.
💡 The Singapore-themed postcards and enamel pins are the best small gifts in the east. The cat may or may not let you pat it.
18. Kim Choo Kueh Chang
Shopping · Katong · $$ · MRT Marine Parade (TE26)
Hours unknown, check before you go
Rice dumplings and kueh out front, beaded slippers, kebaya and hand-painted porcelain inside. Peranakan culture you can take home.
💡 Pineapple tarts and kueh travel fine in hand luggage for a day or two. The rice dumplings are for eating now, not packing.
19. Supermama
Shopping · Bukit Merah · $$$ · MRT Redhill (EW18)
Hours unknown, check before you go
Blue-and-white plates drawn with HDB blocks, Merlions and kopi cups, made by Japanese kilns. The souvenir people actually display.
💡 Short on time? Supermama also runs the museum shops at the Asian Civilisations Museum and the Peranakan Museum in town.
20. IMM Outlet Mall
Shopping · Jurong East · $$ · MRT Jurong East (NS1/EW24)
Hours unknown, check before you go
Dozens of outlet stores for sports, fashion and luggage brands at real discounts. Not pretty, very effective.
💡 It's a covered ten-minute walk from Jurong East MRT via the J-Walk bridge. Weekday mornings are blissfully empty.
