Cafes You Can Actually Work From
Flat whites, a table and one hour of inbox triage between side events.
Sixteen cafes near Marina Bay, the CBD, Tanjong Pagar and Bugis where an hour with a laptop or a quick call won't get you glared at. Hours come from each cafe's own page. Buy something, keep calls short and give up the table when the lunch crowd lands.

1. Common Man Stan
Cafe · CBD · $$ · MRT Telok Ayer (DT18)
Daily 07:30–18:00
Coffee bar up front, cushioned booths at the back. The CBD's most civilised place to pretend your deck is finished.
💡 No reservations, walk-ins only. Aim for the back booths before noon; lunch hour belongs to the office crowd.
2. Common Man Coffee Roasters (Martin Road)
Cafe · Robertson Quay · $$ · MRT Great World (TE15)
Daily 07:30–18:00
Leafy, industrial and loud with brunchers on weekends. Weekday mornings are when it turns into a decent office.
💡 Head upstairs to Grounded, the breezy second-floor coffee bar, when the ground floor is all eggs and strollers.
3. PPP Coffee @ Funan
Cafe · Civic District · $$ · MRT City Hall (EW13/NS25)
Mon–Fri 08:30–21:30; Sat–Sun & public holidays 10:00–21:30
From the people behind Chye Seng Huat Hardware. Open till 9.30pm, which is rare for coffee this good.
💡 Funan is fully air-conditioned and links underground to City Hall MRT, so this one is a solid downpour plan.
4. PPP Coffee @ New Bahru
Cafe · River Valley · $$ · MRT Fort Canning (DT20)
Daily 08:00–22:00
A former school now full of local brands. The latest-closing spot on this list, for when your day runs long.
💡 Open until 10pm daily. Come after a Robertson Quay dinner if you still owe someone a document.
5. Tiong Bahru Bakery (Raffles City)
Cafe · Civic District · $$ · MRT City Hall (EW13/NS25)
Mon–Fri 07:30–22:00; Sat–Sun 08:00–22:00
Butter, flake and a long day: opens at 7.30am on weekdays and keeps going till 10pm, right above City Hall MRT.
💡 Hot food runs 8am to 4pm only. After that it's pastries, coffee and a much easier time finding a seat.
6. Tiong Bahru Bakery (Foothills, Fort Canning)
Cafe · Fort Canning · $$ · MRT Fort Canning (DT20)
Mon–Fri 07:30–19:00; Sat–Sun 08:00–19:00
Same bakery, greener view. Sits at the bottom of the park, across the road from Clarke Quay's daytime quiet.
💡 Weekday mornings are calm. Walk your call up into Fort Canning Park afterwards if you need to pace.
7. Alchemist (Asia Square)
Cafe · Marina Bay · $ · MRT Downtown (DT17)
Mon–Fri 08:00–17:00; closed Sat, Sun & public holidays
A minimalist coffee counter in a very tall lobby. Quick, precise and gone by 5pm like everyone else here.
💡 Weekdays only. It is a counter, not a lounge, so grab the coffee here and plan your sit-down elsewhere if it's busy.
8. Alchemist (International Plaza)
Cafe · Tanjong Pagar · $ · MRT Tanjong Pagar (EW15)
Mon–Fri 08:00–17:00; closed Sat, Sun & public holidays
Good beans, short queue, zero fuss. The right stop between an Anson Road meeting and the train.
💡 Closed on weekends and public holidays. On weekdays the pre-9am queue moves faster than it looks.
9. Alchemist (Arab Street)
Cafe · Bugis · $ · MRT Bugis (EW12/DT14)
Daily 09:00–18:00
The one Alchemist that opens on weekends, tucked among the carpet shops and murals of Kampong Glam.
💡 Pair it with a walk down Haji Lane and to Sultan Mosque, both a few minutes away on foot.
10. Apartment Coffee
Cafe · Bugis · $$ · MRT Little India (NE7/DT12)
Hours unknown, check before you go
A bright, quiet coffee studio for people who read tasting notes. Better for thinking than for meetings.
💡 Their own site doesn't list hours, so check before you walk over. Order a filter coffee; that is the point of the place.
11. Ralph's Coffee (Marina Bay Sands)
Cafe · Marina Bay · $$ · MRT Bayfront (CC34/DT16)
Daily 10:00–22:00
The closest proper coffee to the conference halls, dressed like a country club. Good for a fifteen-minute reset.
💡 Opens at 10am, so it won't save your 8am. Use it for the mid-afternoon slump between sessions instead.
12. Bacha Coffee (Marina Bay Sands)
Cafe · Marina Bay · $$$ · MRT Bayfront (CC34/DT16)
Sun–Thu 10:00–22:00; Fri–Sat & eve of public holidays 10:00–23:00
Not a laptop cafe. This is where you take the person you need to impress and let the gold teapots do the talking.
💡 There is a second outlet at Hotel Tower 3, #01-15. Table service is slow by design, so don't book it before a hard stop.
13. Merci Marcel (Club Street)
Cafe · Club Street · $$$ · MRT Telok Ayer (DT18)
Sun–Tue 08:00–22:30; Wed–Sat 08:00–23:30
Blue velvet, rattan and a menu that goes from breakfast to dinner. Coffee meeting at 4, a glass of wine by 6.
💡 Open from 8am, well before most of Club Street wakes up. Mornings are the quiet window for a call.
14. Plain Vanilla (Telok Ayer)
Cafe · CBD · $$ · MRT Telok Ayer (DT18)
Mon–Sat 07:30–19:00; Sun & public holidays 07:30–17:00
A soft-coloured shophouse that lowers your heart rate on entry. Proper hot lunches on weekdays, cupcakes always.
💡 They take no reservations and the hot food menu stops at 3.50pm. Come early or come for cake.
15. Plain Vanilla (Neil Road)
Cafe · Tanjong Pagar · $$ · MRT Outram Park (EW16/NE3/TE17)
Daily 07:30–19:00
Open-plan and neighbourly, built around one big shared table among some of the prettiest shophouses in town.
💡 The communal table means you will share. Fine for deep work with headphones, less so for a confidential call.
16. The Glasshouse (CHIJMES)
Cafe · Civic District · $$ · MRT City Hall (EW13/NS25)
Daily 08:00–21:00
Daylight, plants and toast inside the old convent grounds. The most photogenic place here to answer email.
💡 Open till 9pm and takes reservations, unlike most cafes on this list. Useful for a small team catch-up.
